Meet the 2015 Philadelphia Fight Imports

For the 2015 season, the Fight is honored to have brought in tremendously skilled rugby league import players.

Returning for his second stint in as many years, The Fight are proud to welcome back Rhys “Bowdo” Bowdich (pictured above). Rhys grew up in Wollongong, NSW playing his junior and senior footy at Dapto RLFC, same club as Fight fan favorites Matt Webster, Nathan Roach and Mike Princic. Rhys was awarded Man-of-the-Match performance from last year’s Grand Final against the Jacksonville Axemen, and he’s looking to continue that form. He’s already been named MVP in his first appearance in 2015 at the USARL 9’s Invitational.

Rhys has shown his commitment to the club. “Last year with the Fight was absolutely amazing, I met some great people, travelled and played footy across America,” says Bowdich. “I kept in close contact with current local players as well as last year’s imports Tom Dawney and Jackson Springer. I’ve also flew up to see them on the gold coast and vise versa.”

Monte in Action

New to the Fight’s 2015 roster is Daniel “Monte” Monteleone (pictured above). Monteleone grew up in Wollongong, NSW alongside Rhys but playing his junior and senior foot at Corrimal Cougars. Monteleone has had success early on in his career, debuting in first grade at 18 years old. He’s also an accomplished touch player as well, representing both state and country. “I’ve had some time away from the game due to work commitments,” adds Monteleone. “But, I look forward to giving it my all for the Philadelphia Fight.”

Both Bowdich and Montelone have been friends since high school as well as opponents in local games. “We have played against each other for many years growing up in our local competition,” recalls Bowdich. We always said we would play in the same team as kids and now it’s become reality. With our strong connection off field I’m positive we can apply that same principle to the game.”

“We have been mates since high school as well as opponents in locals games,” chimes in Monteleone, “so I can’t wait to be out there on the field with him as well as my new teammates!”
