The Fight are happy to announce their newest import signing George Wood! Wood is the first English born import player for the Fight. The youngster is set to travel over to the USA from Essex, England and is expected to play in the back row for the Fight.
“We’re really looking forward to having George with us in 2017,” states one of the Fight’s player/coach Fraser Stirling. “He comes highly regarded as a strong ball runner and will be able to produce some very good go-forward for us.”
Wood is currently playing his footy for the Eastern Rhinos in London Premier and also for the Southend Sharks. He’s been able to represent East Rugby League in their successful 4-0 campaign throughout the season.
The 6’ 2” 220 lbs second rower will bolster and already big strong pack. “We are hoping George can come into the group and contribute right away,” adds Fight’s captain/coach Rich Henson. “He’s going to make us that much better this year, and hopefully with his help we can win another USARL Grand Final.”
“I am thrilled to be playing for the fight this season as over the years, I watched rugby league in America grow dramatically,” added Wood. “I am also looking forward to living locally for a couple of months instead of being in a main tourist area.”
The Fight are very excited for his arrival. He’ll arrive June 1st in just enough time for selection of Round 1.
